Hey, I’m Jake. Jake Acheman. I’m new in town. I was living inside this guy, Augustus. I lived with him for years. He was a young guy. Just twenty-two and in perfect health. He had the world at his fingertips. But my fingertips can make random stuff hurt. I started with his knee. He was always screamin, “My knee! My knee! It hurts so much!! Why?!” As soon as I stopped messing with his knee, I put the pain in his shoulder. Then his knee and his shoulder. His back. His right earlobe. I can still hear his beautiful voice sobbing. “My earlobe, Doc! It hurts so much!!” The doctors could never figure out it was me. We had a lot of fun together. Me and Augustus. I miss him. Maybe I pushed him a bit too hard. He stopped doing everything. Trying to make the pain go away. He’d just lie in bed crying. Ehhhh. What a downer. I miss Augustus but…he had a bad attitude sometimes. Onto new horizons. And new earlobes. “It hurts so much, Doc!” Hehe.
